The African Centre for Peace Building in partnership with The Global Educators For All Initiative is organizing Professional Certificate in Peace Education programme and Peace Conference scheduled for July 30-31, 2011.

Theme: 'promoting global peace the role of teachers, students and institution'

The Peace Conference: July 30, 2011 (8:30 - 12pm)

Venue: Institute of African Studies Conference Hall, University of Ghana, Accra

The conference aims at providing opportunity for all participants to present their expreiences, share ideas, and discuss issues reletaed to the conflict situation in West Africa.

This is done at the opening section of the training programme.

Peace Education Training Workshop:

The programme aims at equipping the youth and leaders with peace education skills to become effective peace educators in society.

The Centre beliefs that there can only be a total peace one day if the younger generation are told and equipped enough with knowledge of what constitute peace. In this light they can pursue the peace building agenda.

Objectives: At the end of the programme, participants would:

  1. Understand what constitute peace and conflict
  2. Acquire effective adult and peer peace teaching skills
  3. Project writing skills
  4. Able to write and implement practical peace education projects

Target Group: One is eligible to participate in the Certificate programme if one falls in the bellow categories.

  1. Teachers in basic, junior, senior high schools and tertiary institutions
  2. Leaders of youth groups, clubs, and associations
  3. Staff of NGO's and Civil Servants
  4. Youth Leaders of Political Parties
  5. Students in Tertiary Educational Institutions
  6. Religious and community leaders

Certificate of Teaching Mastery in Peace Education (CTMPE)

Requirement: Should have attended all the sections of the three to five day course. They are also required to write project on practical lesson plan; community event; youth development project; or anything else you think is most fitting to your environment.

During the training sections, each participant in the CTMPE would be assigned to online project Supervisor/Coach who would review their projects. The project takes a maximum of five months for completion. The project work is done at the comfort of the candidate and sent to the supervisor via email. There would also be a email communication with the supervisor regarding corrections and recommendations. But the candidate should not exceed October 15, 2011 deadline to finish his/her project work to qualify for best project contest in our upcoming Peace Festival in December 2011.

Why Take the Mastery Course?: The candidate would not only be an experienced peace educator but would also have the opportunity to win a grant to implement his/her project if judged one of the best five projects of the year at the Peace Festival 2011

NB: There are also internship opportunities available for all participants (if they so wish) to demonstrate their acquired skills beyond Training Workshop class room while volunteering on the Rural Peace Project
